WANDERERS have offered West Brom a player-swap deal for want-away defender Abdoulaye Meite.
The Baggies have been turned away with two previous cash bids of £1.25million and £1.5m, but Gary Megson revealed last night that a compromise could yet be reached for the Ivory Coast international.
Whites chairman Phil Gartside has contacted his Baggies counterpart Jeremy Peace about a player exchange, although The Bolton News understands that full-back Paul Robinson will not be part of the deal.
“They made a bid and we didn’t accept it, but Phil got in contact today and asked whether we could do a straight swap,” Megson said.
“The offer is with them now, so that it where we are with it.”
Hull are thought to have dropped out of the race to sign Meite after landing Anthony Gardner on loan from Spurs.
The defender is not thought to be joining the rest of the squad in Greece this week and could well be played in a youthful Wanderers side to take on Chorley at Victory Park this afternoon, kick-off 3pm.
