DANNY Shittu has joined Wanderers from Championship club Watford for £2million.

The 27-year-old Nigerian defender has signed a three-year deal.

Shittu becomes Gary Megson’s fourth summer signing following the arrivals of Johan Elmander, Fabrice Muamba and Mustapha Riga.

The former Charlton, Blackpool and QPR centre-half will now fly out to Greece to join his new team-mates on their pre-season tour, but is not expected to figure in Friday’s friendly with AEK Athens.

Doing cartwheels about this signing!

Not.

Ok as a squad / temporary player I suppose. Need to sign another though before letting Meite go.

Can't we be just a little adventurous and get an established player in - we're linked with Championship players like Greening and Robinson for heaven's sake.

We should have gone in for Hyppia or Lucas Neill. can't help but feel a little disappointed really.

let's hope all turns out well though.

Who is going to score the goals?

Not sure about Shittu either but I'm willing to give him a go. Thing is, we're going on like Meite was something special (must 'av missed those games). As far as goals are concerned Pedro, I thought that was what we got Elmander for. I know he didn't look too good at the Euros but in his defense he did play out of position. He's not a winger. Riga looks like he might be a real gem. I think he'll bag double digits this term.
All that said . . . I would still love to see Megson go after an out-and-out attacking midfielder.

Shittu is decent player from what I've seen of him. Better than Meite any road. So if we can get rid of Meite (for money) and get a better player in return, it's an improvement on paper. best you can ask for prior to the season.

At least Meggo has made some decent deals this summer. Almost everyone (if not absolutely everyone) Megson has brought in is relatively young. This time last year, we didn't have Steinsson, Cahill or Muamba; three quality multi year signings. Sure we had Anelka, but he was out of his comfort zone. Now we have another youngish lad to take his place, not the same pressure on him. Riga looks like he could be an extra dimension moving forward.

I'm actually quite optimistic, which is more that I could say this time last year.

Cheer up everyone. Footy's coming back.

Megson, learn - come on he is old skool and will never learn. Even last season his team got relegated (Leicester).

Expect the same, if not worse, for this season - I feel sorry for steinsson, cahil, davies, al-habsi and elmander - these 5 canot safeguard our survival as it takes 11 GOOD players, on the field and 5 GOOD substitues on the bench! Do we have 16 players at the club, nowadays????

Not sure where to start here
-Megsons team did not get relegated last season as megsons team is BOLTON not Liecester
- Why all the negative comments the lad has not even kicked a ball for us yet!
-Terry/Lampard get real
-if you feel that strongly about megson dont support wanderers go buy a man utd shirt.....PLEASE
PS come on you white men

I believe Big Dan would be a good buy as he's one of the best defenders at the African Nations Cup earlier in the year.
With 7 goals last season for the Hornets...I think he can give Andy O'Brien and Gary Cahill a good run for their money.

one day somebody will wake up to the fact that we don't have a serious attack. please somebody wake up. i keep thinking somebody will with all the draws & hanging on to those 1-goal leads.
WAKE UP BOLTON. The White Hot years were too long ago!!!!

I think this is a decent signing. He is clearly backup to O'brien and Cahill. He we be alot more committed to playing premiership football and wouldnt refuse to play against Man U. He is more solid than Miete and is as threatening from set peices as Jaidi. We could have ended up with Chris Morgan so im glad we have this lad instead. Hasnt wasted any money, 2 million is nothing, ideally i would have liked us bring Faye back, as he could have been a sub centre half as well as an option in the holding role, where as Shittu is just an out and out defender.

In terms of Stikers, we have the two big men, Helgusson (if fit) plus this young English centre forward that people keep banging on about. If we get another striker we will only push him down the pecking order. Maybe get a couple of loan signings, but if we find a 20 goal a season man, he will stay for a year then be taken.

I have never heard so many negative comments. Megson has been out and bought some good young talented players. I know Shittu is from a lower league but i have heard some good comments about him and at the end of the day he is only third cholce so get off Megsons back and get behind him and the team.

Errrr - I was being facetious.... Terry/Ferdinand?!

Some clowns on here suggesting the future lies with an aging Hyypia or injured mercenary Lucas Neil.

I'm sick of all the negativity posted on this & other websites. If you don't want to get behind the club then **** off !!

This is now Megs team and his own back room boys. He will either sink or swim with them. I think that he will float. It will not be pretty, we we will need a bit of luck, but Bolton are not going down this year.
Get behind the lads!

I am not now or ever been a fan of Megson. That said, he has brought in a number of players since January and I do not know at this stage how it is going to work out when we kick off against Stoke. I just want Bolton to do well and not be dragged into a relegation battle again next season. A comfortable mid table position next season would be great and if we achieve that then I will have to accept that there is more to Megson than his checkered past career shows.

I have been interested in the various comments about Shittu's ability, surely the worrying thing is that come January he and all the other African internationals will disappear to the African cuo of Nations leaving our team sorely depleted.

If this happens a mid-table place could be a pipe dream and relegation would be staring us in the face. Too often we have messed up in December/January and had to play beyond ourselves to maintain our premiership status. Another disappearing team member could seal our fate this season.

It's obvious that Megson has been given far more money than Allardyce ever was so why isn't he buying non-Africans - hey English might be a good idea!

How about Cahill Taylor, Muamba ??

He's got rid of Diouf & Meite..

Well I'm no fan of Megson's either and am highly sceptical of our progress next year but fair play to the guy we have to see how his team performs. He said he was going to get rid of most of Sam's players and he has so he sinks or swims on his own buy's now.

We seem to have most positions covered but has anyone seen anything of Dzemali as he was supposed to be one to watch and may fill the midfield gap we seem to have according to many on here?

Haven't seen anything of Danny but if Rangers were in for him then surely he can't be that bad.
