GRETAR Steinsson believes the international break could not have come at a worse time for Wanderers.
The full-back, who linked up with the Iceland squad for their World Cup qualifiers with Holland and Macedonia, says Bolton are just hitting top form.
The 26-year-old is one of 12 Wanderers players called up for national duty this week following Sunday’s morale-boosting victory at West Ham.
And he admits it is not ideal preparation for the Reebok club’s next game against Blackburn on October 18.
“It is difficult,” he said. “We go away for two weeks and it is not as if Iceland will be passing the ball around, we have to run a lot and fight a lot.
“You play on the Wednesday and go back really early on the Thursday and sometimes the Friday, so it can be really tough on you.
“But we are professionals and we try to train well, eat well, rest well and prepare for the next game.
“We know what we have to do to, you just have to make sure you do it when you are away playing for your country.”
The former AZ Alkmaar defender believes the success at Upton Park – Wanderers first away win since April – was vital.
Gary Megson’s side ended a run of six games without a victory when they defeated the high-flying Hammers.
And Steinsson thinks Bolton success in the capital can prove a catalyst for the rest of the campaign.
