AN elderly woman was seriously hurt after she was pushed to the ground in a daylight robbery.
Mary Porter, aged 80, is due to have surgery on her arm, which was broken in two places, following the attack, which happened at 4pm on Wednesday, near her home in the Moor Lane area of Bolton town centre.
She also suffered a cut to her head, two cracked ribs and a collapsed lung.
Last night she was in a stable condition in hospital.
Mrs Porter, a former post office counter clerk, had been on a trip to Leigh.
Her attacker came up from behind and snatched her handbag, which contained 100, including £30 she had won at bingo.
Her daughter, Shelagh Orrell, aged 45, of Avondale Road, Farnworth, said: “She was a very independent woman for her age and liked to go out, but this will set her back for a long time.”
Police do not have a description of the robber, but they believe he was riding a bike and escaped with her black canvas bag.
Anyone with any information is asked to call the robbery unit on 0161 856 5645, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
