A CANCER survivor has completed one of the world’s toughest physical challenges in less than a week.
Andy Griffin took on a 3,000-mile cycle race across America as part of a four-man team.
The cyclists had nine days to ride from Los Angeles to Maryland, but managed the course in six days, 22 hours and six minutes.
Mr Griffin, aged 44, who lived in Westhoughton for eight years, said: “We thought we might be able to do it in eight days, but were delighted when we did it in less than a week”
Mr Griffin was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in February, 2003, and had chemotherapy, radiotherapy and stem-cell treatment before he was declared in remission in June, 2004.
Since then, he has completed triathlons, marathons and cycling events, raising thousands of pounds for various charities.
Mr Griffin recently moved to Northamptonshire after living in Daisy Hill. He is married to Linda, aged 45, and has a daughter Samantha, aged 20, and a son Adam, aged 18.
