Listen up, say angry councillors

FED-UP town councillors are writing to town hall chiefs in Bolton because they feel their concerns are falling on deaf ears.

Members of Blackrod Town Council say they are tired of contacting Bolton Council to report concerns, only to discover weeks later that no action has been taken.

Now they have agreed to put their frustrations in writing and will send a letter to the chief executive of Bolton Council, Sean Harriss.

The issue arose as town councillors discussed Blackrod Cemetery.

They were told weedkiller had been used around the graves and it had turned the grass brown. The footpath needs repairing and people have been allowing their dogs to foul in the cemetery in Manchester Road.

Concerns were also raised about children using a metal sheet as a trampoline on top of a dug-out at playing fields in Vicarage Road and councillors asked Bolton Council to remove it because it is a health and safety risk.

Cllr Ian Hamilton said: “This was reported before the last meeting and six weeks down the line the sheet of metal has not been removed.

“Some of the officers at Bolton Council do not appear to be adhering to the request and advice that the town council is giving.

“I can see no excuse for the amount of time this is taking and we should write to the chief executive and tell him that things are not being done properly.”
